The story of George Gershwin

Van New Yorks street urchin to musical genius: the life story of George Gershwin reads like a whirlwind. In Here to Stay, Wilfried Van den Brande and Rani De Deken bring this legend to life in word and song, virtuously accompanied by pianist Bart Van Caenegem. Gershwin was a vat full of contradictions. An eternal innovator who received the legendary advice from Maurice Ravel to mainly ‘remain himself’. A tireless party animal who claimed every party behind the piano. But above all, a bridge builder with a big heart, who blurred the boundaries between classical, jazz, and blues and gave black music a voice in opera and on Broadway. His life was abruptly cut short at just 37 years of age by a brain tumor, but his musical legacy is immortal. Let yourself be carried away by the wonder of Porgy and Bess and iconic pearls from Broadway and Hollywood such as ‘Swanee’, ‘I Got Rhythm’, ‘Someone to Watch over Me’, and ‘Embraceable You’. Gershwin is no longer here, but his music? Love is Here to Stay. Performers: Wilfried Van den Brande: narrator and vocals Rani De Deken: vocals Bart Van Caenegem: piano
