Hamnet, the latest film by Chloé Zhao (Nomadland), tells the powerful love story that was the source of inspiration for Shakespeare's masterpiece, Hamlet.
This fictionalized historical drama takes us to Stratford-upon-Avon at the end of the 16th century. Young Agnes and William fall head over heels for each other, despite the different worlds in which they grew up and their divergent characters. When tragedy strikes, their built-up life is completely turned upside down. As Terwijl William seeks refuge in writing what he thinks will be his magnum opus, Agnes falls into a hopeless black hole.
Hamnet is based on the book of the same name, which is at least as popular, by the Northern Ierse Maggie O’Farrell.
Actrice Jessie Buckley was able to accept the coveted Oscar statuette for Beste Actrice for her role as Agnes.
