The hospital O.L.Vrouw met de Roos in Lessines

The hospital O.L.V. with the Rose was founded in 1242 for the care of the poor and sick and was managed by the Augustinian sisters. It has been in use as such until approx. 1980. We get a tour through history: hospital wards, beds, medical instruments, recipes, tin tableware for patients, Tournai porcelain, a library with 2000 antique books, paintings, and precious gold and silversmithing. In the pharmacy, medicines were made from their own herb garden. The highlight of our visit: the two hospital wards, which sketch a clear picture of how medicine was practiced and how that science has evolved. This trip is a collaboration with senDIA.
