Out and about with the managers in the sand quarry of Kerkom

For several years now, we have been managing the former sand quarry of Kerkom. On this site, we find a small but varied nature reserve that connects beautifully to the surrounding agricultural landscape. A short walk through the area therefore offers something for everyone. We start on the south slope with an eye for flora such as the bee orchid and grass vetchling, to then cross over to the remaining piece of sand quarry. There, through the telescope, we can enjoy the spectacle that a colony of sand martins offers us. Along the way, the managers will tell you about future plans, the management carried out, present (bird) species, and the relationship - and consequently the importance - for the adjacent agricultural area and the animals living there. Registration is necessary, as the number of places is limited . You can register by emailing natuurpuntboutersem@gmail.com and stating your name and the number of participants. A good pair of shoes is certainly sufficient. If you have binoculars, be sure to bring them. We will provide a few telescopes to watch the sand martins. Participation is free, but a voluntary contribution for more and better nature is certainly welcome. PLEASE NOTE: This date is subject to change. Depending on the flowering time of the orchids, this may be changed. For example, in 2024, we had to move it forward by two weeks. Those who have registered will be kept informed by email of any adjustments.
