Lasse Vonck was proclaimed a prodigy and acclaimed by press and public as a young artist. Thirty years later, that is no longer the case. That people have forgotten him over the years, he finds a bearable fate, but he is lost; he is looking for a goal, meaning. On a spring day without luster, Lasse is so alienated from himself upon waking that he no longer really knows who he is. He can't even speak anymore. I really have nothing with cars but I had a strange dream has kept me busy for a long time it's about a - how do you say that - a family car I am nine years old and my mother and I are looking out the window We see a strongly muscular man in a tank top who one by one all four tires of the white Citroën BX of my father dismantles then he takes out a sledgehammer and smashes all the windows into smithereens happily tears all the seats - front and back - into shreds rips out the car radio breaks off the side mirrors pulls out the steering wheel and my mother watches it and she does nothing and I run outside the man in his tank top is - poof - dissolved and I want to shout I want to scream but I can't do it I can't do it again stand up for myself why is that so difficult and I look at what remains of the Citroën I see the spot where I always sat when we left for vacation In the middle of the back seat just a bit to the front between my father and my mother elbows on the side of their chairs and I get to choose the cassette to put in the car radio 'sweet little piranha tear me apart' Confession is inspired by the timeless and unrivaled story De Gedaanteverwisseling van Franz Kafka. It sketches a portrait of the human as silent protest. It is a new theater text by Raven Ruell, written for and played by Bruno Vanden Broecke. Both have been making performances together for 25 years, including Missie (2007), Para (2016), and Klink (2023).
