Ground in motion - Landslides in the Vlaamse Ardennen

De Vlaamse Ardennen are known for their beautiful hills, hollow roads, and vistas. But beneath that idyllic landscape lies a subsoil that is constantly in motion. During this walk, you will discover how "landslides" occur: small, natural earth movements that help shape the relief of the region in many places. Together with nature guide Hannelore Longueville, we go exploring along steep slopes, bumpy meadows, and landscape features that tell how the earth here slowly slides downwards over time. You will learn how the alternation of sand and clay layers from the distant past still influences the landscape today, why water plays a leading role, and how you can recognize landslides with the naked eye. We walk about 4 km over a hilly course. Sturdy walking shoes are recommended. Come along and discover how every bend in the slope, every spring, and every bump in the grassland tells a hidden story.
