For decades, the canal formed the northern border of our city, but 20 years ago this changed. Apartments and single-family homes combined with social housing now take the place of the centuries-old agricultural area. The neighborhood De Bruyne Strijd is as good as fully built up and in 2022 work started for the subdivision Heizijdse Velden. With the city farm, a play park, water features, walking and cycling paths, the city hopes to partly preserve the green character of this new urban expansion. During this walk, we observe and experience the work already carried out, and we discuss what the future has in store for this new part of the city.
