Blik Historik: Where past and present meet We start at the station and walk towards MAP Den Brei , along streets with Art Deco houses that help tell how Sint-Niklaas grew as an industrial city. Along the way, you will get an explanation about architecture, living, and the people behind the facades, in a city that once revolved around textiles. In MAP Den Brei – the renovated knitwear museum – the history of the knitting industry in Sint-Niklaas and the surrounding area comes to life. You will walk through the 19th century to the beginning of the 1990s and the contemporary era, with the knitting scene in and around the city as a guide. What makes MAP Den Brei so special is the impressive collection of working knitting machines. Many of these machines are still in use and are demonstrated by an experienced technician. But during our visit, it is not just about knitting needles, a ball of wool, or machines... it is also and especially about people. Our guide will step into the shoes of ‘Tricot Lily’ – “worker in the knitting industry”. She will tell with great dedication about the life's work of thousands of men and women, their craftsmanship and their pride – spiced with surprising facts and the necessary humor. Practical Departure on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Sint-Niklaas station. The visit lasts 1.5 to 2 hours, including a short walk to and from the station. Je Blik Historik-guide: Marcella Piessens (Linx+ Boontje) By walking along, you save a point on your Blik Historik savings card .
