Culture buzz: opera 'Carmen'

Travel with the Cultuurbuzz to the opera 'Carmen' by Opera Ballet Vlaanderen in Antwerp. The free-spirited Carmen longs for love, but her indomitable desire for independence overrides every other feeling. The obsessive and conservative soldier Don José falls completely under her spell and sacrifices everything he holds dear. When Wanneer Carmen leaves him for the charismatic Escamillo, the unbearable tension drives them to the extreme.  Georges Bizets Carmen is undeniably one of the masterpieces of the opera repertoire, with captivating melodies and irresistible rhythms that will stay in your head for days.  Director and choreographer Wim Vandekeybus ventures into one of the biggest productions that Opera Ballet Vlaanderen has ever brought to the stage: featuring, in addition to the Symfonisch Orkest, a dozen soloists, the full Choir and Children's Choir, and a large number of dancers. Vandekeybus develops the deeper psychology of the characters through his characteristic and intense movement language. On the other hand, he unearths a ritual layer that reveals the intuitive and almost mythological power of the work.
