Arkadia invites you to discover the magnificently decorated rooms of the Town Hall of the municipality of Saint-Gilles. Hôtel de ville de Saint-Gilles is the work of Albert Dumont (1853-1920), a self-taught architect whose work is marked by the French and Flemish Renaissance. It is characterized by its French neo-Renaissance style and covers an area of 4,267m². Erected in 1904, this imposing neo-Renaissance edifice is the apotheosis of Saint-Gilles artistic activity. The deep ties created with Saint-Gilles artists have contributed, throughout its 120 years of existence, to enriching the Town Hall's collection: a plaster by Rodin, a panel by Jordaens, a canvas by Paulus, contemporary works from the Artists' Trails... The interior decoration of Hôtel de Ville is, through the choice of artists and the quality of the works, a true manifesto of early 20th-century Belgian art. Indeed, the execution of the monumental paintings was entrusted to artists representative of Belgian Symbolism: Albert Ciamberlani, Emile Fabry, Omer Dierickx, and Fernand Khnopff.
