Tramlijn Begeerte is a top classic of American realism and established Marlon Brando's name as one of the greatest actors of the so-called 'method acting school', in which the actor completely immerses himself in his character. The piece tackles some of the most unpleasant social and psychological themes: narcissism, alcohol addiction, domestic violence, and rape. Yet it is one of the most performed and beloved pieces in the theater. Precisely because it is so truthful. Because of the challenging roles in which the actors can shine through lifelike dialogues and character drawings. Because of the emotions that strike the stage like whirlwinds. And because of the final chord, brutal and heartbreaking. The piece is 75 years old.
