Natuurpunt Markvallei is organizing an evening on Saturday, July 4, entirely dedicated to the nightjar. A little over 45 years ago, Mrs. Lucienne Vevereyssen, the only daughter of Denise Voortman, sold Den Rooy to Verzekeringsmaatschappij Mercator. It was not until 2015 that Natuurpunt had the opportunity to purchase 42 hectares of Den Rooy. Meanwhile, the nature reserve, together with Smisselbergen, is one hundred hectares in size. After the work on the construction of heath strips, we can now enjoy the evening concerts of the nightjar in Den Rooy and Smisselbergen. The woodcock has also settled here, and with a bit of luck, it can also be seen and heard. So that will be pure enjoyment!!! We are keeping our fingers crossed for good weather, because with rain…. no nightjars! We expect participants on July 4 at the parking lot of Den Rooy on the Ulicotenseweg at 9:00 PM. The end is scheduled for 11:30 PM. This walk also fits into the “ Markathon ” series and is good for 5 km.
