Since her debut album in 1997, Cristina Branco has given fado a new language: elegant, literary and daring. To mark her 30th anniversary, she will be touring Europe again in 2027 with her repertoire, shaped by collaborations with poets, composers and musicians. A constant feature of Cristina Branco’s richly varied career is her sense of musical innovation. Her love of jazz and pop music lends a playful touch, whilst her sessions with young, talented musicians create a contemporary sound. Her favourite line-up has been the quartet for many years: accompanied by a Portuguese guitar, a bass guitar and a piano, her voice constantly explores the boundaries of both the musical and the emotional. But Cristina also consistently bridges the gap with the tradition of fado. Central to her work remains the musical interpretation of the Portuguese soul. In every song, she weaves saudade with stories and poetry. Her collaborations with the finest lyricists and her renditions of timeless poems always bring her to the heart of fado: the perfect marriage of voice, lyrics and music. We are therefore delighted to welcome Cristina Branco back to De Roma this spring — for the seventh time now. Because an evening with Cristina is always an intimate love letter to the beautiful art of fado.
