Giselle(s) Theatre

Giselle(s)

The dazzling Marie-Claude Pietragalla and sixteen dancers in a committed contemporary ballet, presented for the first time in Belgium! Marie-Claude Pietragalla and Julien Derouault brilliantly revisit the famous romantic ballet nearly 185 years after its creation. In their version, the tragic heroine Giselle gives way to a multitude of Giselle(s), all victims of violence and betrayal. On stage, the warrior-dancers track down their executioners. They are led by the Queen of the Willis, interpreted with mastery by the star dancer. This resolutely modern and feminist re-reading of this masterpiece draws its strength from the theatricality and richness of the choreography. The movements of the performers release a combative energy and impressive power. As for music, the original score by Adolphe Adam marries harmoniously with electronic sounds and the music of the Tambours du Bronx. For more than twenty years, Marie-Claude Pietragalla and Julien Derouault have explored the boundaries between dance, theater, and performance with their company, the Théâtre du Corps. In their creations, the body is a powerful vector of emotion and narration. And "Giselle(s)" is no exception to the rule: prepare to experience a great moment! "The scenography, which essentially relies on costumes and lights, is striking." - La Terrasse "The sketches are powerful." - Le Monde
