“The difference between the women in my mother's family and those in my father's family is this. In my father's family, they believe in their power to work. If money runs out, they know they are capable of creating it. They let money circulate. In my mother's family, the dowry confirms their incapacity. Women are pretty, fragile things who are incapable of providing for their needs. Money worries them.” With some projections of old family photos, she goes back up the thread of the years and tells us about her university-educated grandmother, her grandfather marked by the war, the dowry that her mother offered her, her father's library… After having delighted us with her previous creations (Quand tu es revenu, La Solitude du mammouth, Perfect Day…), Geneviève Damas returns with a spicy show, in the mode of confidence. With the talent we know her for, she unravels the threads of her family history to better understand who she is today and her relationship with money. "Respire is a true story. It tells how our lives are woven from other lives. How my relationship with money is directly linked to the way my mother's family went through the war. (…) It is a small story shattered by the big one." - Geneviève Damas
