Saint-Saëns' Cello Concerto - Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen & Victor Julien-Laferrière

Tonight, cellist Julien-Laferrière is both soloist and conductor Since he won the first edition of the Koningin Elisabethwedstrijd for cello in 2017, Victor Julien-Laferrière developed into a versatile conductor. Tonight he takes on a double role: as soloist and conductor. He takes us on a journey along four hundred years of music, which begins and ends with the baroque. Starting point is the 'Third Orchestral Suite' by Bach with the famous 'Air', then he treats us to a solo from the 'Cello Concerto' by Saint-Saëns, and via the ‘Haffner’ symphony by Mozart we end up at Escaich. Or back at Bach, if you like. Because 'Baroque Song', with its Bachian motif, is like a contemporary mirror of baroque music.
