Will Tura, the emperor of the Flemish song. But he is so much more than that. A monument, Gert Verhulst rightly calls him.
For 65 years he has colored our music history. He recorded almost 1000 songs. Tura was not just a singer, but also a gifted composer. He wrote almost all his songs himself, often with lyrics by Nelly Byl. His repertoire is surprisingly versatile: from kleinkunst and Dutch-language chansons to cheerful pop, from jazz to gospel, and from rock-'n-roll and country to even rap. That is precisely what makes him such a fascinating artist, a true phenomenon.
Andrea Croonenberghs, Els Dottermans and Barbara Dex had already brought a brilliant tribute to Boudewijn de Groot – to the great joy of the master himself. Three singers, each with their own angle. They know better than anyone how to give each song a personal touch, always with respect for the original.
Now they bring an ode to Tura together and apart. Creative, quirky, but always warm and full of reverence for the text. Choosing was no sinecure – there is enough material for five theater programs. So expect an evening full of big hits, but also let yourself be surprised by almost forgotten gems.
