La Puta Tierra , Spanish for ‘the cursed earth,’ begins as a blank slate. Eight young people from diverse backgrounds will color it in, each with their own language, story, body, memory, identity, and history. While misunderstanding, miscommunication, violence, and prejudice rage outside the theater walls, they create a brave space inside, where differences and contradictions are allowed to be highlighted. In word, image, sound, and movement, the young people express the complexity of their identity. It is a story of navigating and balancing between where you are and who you are. About soil, land, space, territoriality, exclusion mechanisms, and appropriation, but also about tenderness, care, and coming home. A story with a snowed-under happy ending: what we do share with each other is not bound to a place or culture. La Puta Tierra is the fourth youth production that f ABULEUS is producing with a Limburg cast. Theater maker and performance artist Samuel Valor Reyes studied at the Toneelacademie Maastricht and creates physical crossover performances about empowerment, queerness, identity, and rituals.
