Animal. Museum Beasts.

From July 3, 2026 to May 9, 2027, the Museum of Grande Ardenne de Bastogne presents "Animal. Bêtes de Musées", the new collective exhibition of Lux Musea, designed and scenographed by the Museum of Grande Ardenne from the collections of the eleven partner museums. Omnipresent in the province of Luxembourg, the animal occupies an essential place in landscapes, human activities, and imaginaries. It is at once a force of labor, a source of raw materials, a daily companion, and a figure of symbolic representation. Des Celtes to contemporary Luxembourgers, the societies that populated the province have woven links with the animal world. Through archaeological objects, works of art, naturalized animals, and ancient documents, the exhibition invites you to discover the diversity of these relationships. Sometimes an essential resource for rural and artisanal work, the animal has always accompanied human activities. But it very quickly exceeds its mere utility: hunting or household companion, it is part of attachment relationships that make it a true member of the family. Present in myths and representations, it becomes a symbol, a moral figure, or an imaginary creature. The exhibition also addresses the wolf, a figure very real and deeply rooted in the imaginaries. By bringing together collections from the museums of the Lux Musea collective, "Animal. Bêtes de Musées" offers a sensitive exploration of the link between humans and animals. An invitation to look differently at these presences that shape our territories, from the most familiar to the wildest.
