In Germany, he is called uncategorizable (Jazzthetik), in the Netherlands praised as a pianist “of the same exceptional level as Keith Jarrett” (Trouw), and in the United States, two of his albums were already selected in the “Best Albums of the Year” of the leading DownBeat Magazine, the international reference in the jazz world. Even the BBC simply called his music “gorgeous”. As the youngest son of a Japanese mother and West Flemish father, he started piano as a classical prodigy at the age of five and has since been praised to the skies by jazz icons like Kurt Elling, Kenny Werner, and Brad Mehldau. He studied in Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and New York, won a Fulbright Scholarship, among others, and is currently a principal subject teacher of jazz piano at LUCA School of Arts in Leuven. His music is cinematic, tender, whimsical, and energetic, but always unmistakably his. For this unique concert, he brings repertoire solo at the piano in the Academiezaal.
