Female visual language: inspiration from textiles and mixed media

Wed, 3 Jun 2026 · 10:00
WISPER Gent, Ghent
€15–83
In this three-part series, we draw inspiration from influential female artists who have left a lasting impression with their innovative visual language and themes. We discover how they work with textiles, installations, and mixed media to explore themes such as vulnerability, strength, and identity. Each session focuses on one artist: Louise Bourgeois – powerful sculptures and textile works centered on memory, the body, and emotion. Beili Liu – meditative installations using thread, needles, and simple gestures. Judy Scott – sculptures made of textiles and found materials that explore covering and protection. Their work forms the starting point for our own creative process. We experiment with paper, cardboard, and textiles, combining drawing, painting, collaging, cutting, folding, and sewing into new forms. This creates a playful, investigative way of working where boundaries blur and personal interpretations emerge. We conclude each session with a short presentation moment and discussion: what touched us in the artist's work, and how does that resonate in our own work? Facilitators: Annelies Slabbynck
