Bat Night 2026: The life of the bat explained and then off to search!

Bat expert Johan Thys begins this Night of the Bat with a presentation about the life of bats. This will take place in the upper room of the Bezoekerscentrum Webbekomsbroek in Diest. He explains what a bat's year looks like and briefly touches upon the species that occur in Flanders and more specifically around Diest. This lecture lasts over an hour. After a short break, Johan leaves for a walk along the ramparts. It is dark by then and the first bats come out, if the weather cooperates. At this moment, participants who only want to walk can join. Johan has a bat detector with him with which he can make the sounds of the bats audible to the participants and which enables him to determine which species of bat it is.
