Ave de Barro is a Belgisch Mexicaans duo that brings the passion and richness of Latin American music to life. Denisse Vargas (vocals) and Stevo Fakoli (guitar) met in 2019 and soon discovered their shared love for Mexican and Latin American songs. They take you on a musical journey full of emotion where the focus is on the beautiful traditions of Mexican music. Denisse Vargas grew up in Durango, in the north of Mexico, where she sang at a young age and, under the influence of her father, came into contact with the beautiful traditional sounds from her region. Stevo Fakoli learned to play many songs from the region on his travels to Mexico and Latin America. When they met, a collaboration was inevitable. Ave de Barro, which literally means Vogel van Klei, invites you to discover the old musical treasures of Latin America. Denisse's powerful voice hits straight to the heart and is subtly accompanied by Stevo’s masterful guitar playing. Since 2023 they have also been performing as Ave de Barro Trio, collaborating with the fantastic saxophonist/clarinetist/flutist Tom Callens. Tom has a long track record in the Belgian music scene and is known for his work with Lester's Blues, Lady Linn and her Magnificent Seven, Proyecto Secreto, South of the Border, Jamaican Jazz Orchestra, and many other projects.
