Domenico Scarlatti Stabat Mater to 10 Essentially known for his 555 keyboard sonatas, Domenico Scarlatti also composed sacred vocal music. Son Stabat Mater for ten voices is one of its most striking testimonies. Written for ten solo voices, the score constantly varies the vocal combinations, creating a great diversity of textures. Although inspired by the polyphonic tradition, the work exploits the expressiveness of the text according to the rhetorical and contrapuntal methods of its time, in music that is both meditative and intensely expressive.
