The Sinking of the Titanic by Gavin Bryars is one of the most iconic works of European minimalism. In a trip of just over an hour, the composer evokes the slow sinking of the luxury ship and the imperturbable playing of the musicians on board. Together with the ship, you as a listener are sucked into the depths. But it is not a threatening depth, rather a blissful infinity in which you can lose yourself completely.
The musicians of HERMESensemble work directly with the composer for their new version of this masterpiece, our artist-in-residence Lise Bruyneel provides a scenic surplus. To make the feeling of space as overwhelming as possible, we are moving to Het Depot for this special concert.
