Bus trip South edge High Fens

Today we explore the southern edge of the Hoge Venen, surprisingly enough without having to trudge or splash. It will be a particularly beautiful and varied landscape excursion! We start in Ovifat on the high moor plateau and gradually descend to the Warche and the dam of Robertville. During this walk of 11 km, the landscape changes constantly. From giant hornbeam hedges that protect houses against drifting snow, over deciduous forest and vast spruce forests, to a peat field with junipers, an age-old protected oak, worn-out stream valleys, agricultural areas, and the edge of the limestone zone along the Warche. There, the castle of Reinhardstein towers above the landscape, where we naturally stop for a while. More variety is hard to imagine. Add to that rare plants, beautiful landscapes, and sweeping vistas, and you have every reason to come along today. Although nature elsewhere is already a bit past its peak now that autumn is approaching, that does not apply to the edge of the peat — you will notice that for yourself. We hope to see many more birds and plants and are happy to tell you more about what we encounter along the way. This trip belongs in this season to the most beautiful landscape walks of our country. It is quite long, but not difficult: we usually walk downhill, with only two short climbs. Towards the end of the walk, we pause for a drink, after which the bus brings us comfortably back home. Appointment: departs at the Bist in Wilrijk at 8 AM, back by 7:45 PM. To bring: good walking shoes (boots are really not necessary).
