Old music, but this time from South America.
In de Latin American Music Library is
a unique collection of polyphonic music
and Gregorian chants found in
Huehuetenango in the north of Guatemala.
The collection, compiled between 1582 and
1635, is an indispensable reference work to
understand the complex and mysterious way in
which European music manifested itself through the
spirits, hands and voices of the indigenous
population. Tenor Jonatan Alvarado
brings together with guitarist Ariel Abramovich
on the vihuela a selection from this collection.
With music by Claudin de Sermisy (ca. 1490 –
1562), Cristóbal de Morales (ca. 1500 – 1553),
Pedro de Escobar (ca. 1465 – after 1535),
Juan Vásquez (ca. 1500 – c. 1560) and others.
