Baziel is back! Guido Depraetere would have turned 80 this year. Now son Jeroen Depraetere breathes new life into the Baziel universe with a unique evening in the Stadsschouwburg Brugge, on Thursday, October 22, 2026. Baziel remains Baziel: not the smartest, sometimes clumsy, always hits the mark. The legendary Baziel jokes have become humorous heritage. The laconic object of the age-old folk joke got its own universe, with his wife Flavie, his regular buddy Hector, and Baziel in his childhood: Bazieltje. The jokes, told by Guido Depraetere, found a place in memorable TV programs like HT&D and were given a face a little later. A weekly cartoon appeared in the newspaper, and later Guido Depraetere went on tour with the jokes and played theater shows. Guido died exactly 20 years ago. To honor that humorous legacy, Guido’s son Jeroen Depraetere brings the jokes of Baziel during a unique evening in the Brugse Stadsschouwburg. Baziel is still not the smartest and continues to have a difficult pronunciation; the figure remains the center of mockery. That is no different today. Baziel is of all times.
