CINEWA - THE THEFT with pre-discussion

For the first CineWa after the summer, we are doing something extra. We are showing a film from our own Flemish soil, more specifically from Wetteren. Beforehand, there is a short preliminary discussion about the theme of the film: the Rechtvaardige Rechters . “Zijn de Rechtvaardige Rechters as traceless as one makes it appear, and who benefits from the mystery remaining?” The bold theft of two panels of Het Lam Gods of the Gebroeders Van Eyck from the Saint Bavo Cathedral in Ghent on the night of April 10, 1934, remains a great mystery to this day. Despite extensive research and the many theories, the panel remains untraceable to this day. Every now and then someone comes up with yet another theory. But are all these searches really necessary? Is the panel even as ‘traceless’ as one thinks? Or do they want us to believe this? Who, together with the panel, has something to hide? De Diefte is fiction and the story keeps the middle ground between a classic detective and a feel-good movie. Facts and leads from historical research serve as a guideline.
