Dakka Al Manar & Gnawa

Gnawa music is a spiritual music style known for its immersive rhythms and hypnotic sounds. The tradition has its origins in communities in Morocco with roots in West Africa. Over the centuries, gnawa grew into an important part of Moroccan culture, where gnawa musicians enjoy much appreciation. Also in Brussels, with its large and diverse community of Moroccan descent, gnawa music has been strongly present since the 2000s. Especially since the maalem Rida Stitou, who came from Tangier, settled in the city in 1998, a lively Brussels gnawa scene emerged. Research by ethnomusicologists Hélène Sechehaye and Stéphanie Weisser even shows that Brussels, with groups like Gnawa de Bruxelles and Gnawa Dakka Al Manar, belongs to the most important gnawa cities outside Morocco today. Gnawa Dakka Al Manar is no stranger to Hoboken. The group has already been here at various parties and events (Marhabafestival 2024) and always provides a unique atmosphere. Also in the Gravenhof they promise a powerful and immersive gnawa concert full of rhythm, tradition and energy.
