GUIDED DAY TRIP TO NORTHERN FRANCE (F)

Davidsfonds Blankenberge and the Gezinsbond van Blankenberge and Uitkerke organize a day trip to Northern France (F). At 07:00 AM we depart from the town hall in Blankenberge. There is also a stop in B-Park. (Bruges). Then we continue by bus to Ypres where we pick up our expert guide Philippe Despriet. He is a true connoisseur of French Flanders. With him we explore Saint-Omer. We explore both the upper and the lower city. The oldest core is established around the Saint-Bertinus Abbey, an important center for art and culture from the 7th to the 18th century. We visit the ‘market’ (town hall of 1834) and the cathedral (16th century). We take a short walk to the castle hill (11th century) and then drive via a beautiful nature reserve to Volckerinckhove where we will have lunch. On the menu are already: soup, chicken leg prepared with beer, fries, and a chocolate mousse as dessert. Drinks are included. In the afternoon we drive along Millam and Watten and bring a guided visit to the Blockhaus d'Eperlecques, a launch base for the V2 rockets of the Germans from the 2nd World War. The region around it is also known for its many sites with war memories. Langs Wizernes with its large underground V2 launch base we drive to Ypres for our evening stop. There we still get a bread board with toppings and a regional beer. Around 8 PM we are back in Blankenberge.
