If trees could talk... In a world where all trees have been felled, sawn into planks, split into firewood, ground into toothpicks, crushed into pulp, life takes place indoors, between stone and plastic. One day a child hears a strange sound under the floor of her room. A creaking, rustling, thumping rhythm. It turns out to be a tree, whose twigs slowly wend their way through the concrete. The very first tree the child ever saw. When large machines threaten to remove the tree to make room for an ‘air purification center’, the child must choose: remain silent or take action. Michai Geyzen previously made passant, Vuur/toren and HEROES at Laika De, performances that thrive on the expressiveness of images, humor, and music. The themes he chooses are universal and touch the world of every person, young and old: from the search for ‘home’, to the fear of being abandoned, to the tragedy of heroism. And in the mountain he creates this season, he ponders our rituals around farewell and mourning. The last tree will be a visual, poetic, and musical adventure about how even one child can make the difference. concept and direction Michai Geyzen - cast Robbert Vervloet and a second player - music Ephraïm Cielen - dramaturgy Mieke Versyp - © image Shira Sela
