Moretusburg Hoboken: walk + photo expo

Walk along through Moretusburg, a neighborhood that was taken apart and yet continues to live on. Afterward, photographer Vera takes you into her images and the stories they carry. What does living together look like when neighbors disappear, houses are demolished, and silence takes over the streetscape? In Moretusburg in Hoboken (Antwerp) gives that question a face. During this guided walk, you will walk past empty spaces and new green zones, past four houses that remained standing, surrounded by industry, rail, and water. You will hear what the years of pollution around the Umicore factory unleashed: in the air, in the soil, but especially in people's lives. After the walk, you will step into the church of Moretusburg for the photo expo by Vera Van de Peer, laureate of our Grote Prijs Sociale Fotografie 2025. Vera walked the same streets, knocked on people's doors, and listened. Her images are soft, but they do not leave you alone. They show what is there, without judgment. Vera guides you through her expo herself. She tells how she entered as an outsider and slowly gained access to life in the neighborhood.
