We have the pleasure of inviting you to the vernissage of the exhibition "Here and Elsewhere" by Géraldine de Bellaing, on Thursday, May 21 at Gallery Twenty Seven. Géraldine de Bellaing develops a committed work, where artistic creation becomes a space of attention, care, and resonance with the world. Born in Brussels, this multidisciplinary artist, at the crossroads of painting, collage, portraiture, and textile art, places the human at the heart of her process, with a rare sensitivity for what remains invisible, fragile, or silent in our contemporary societies. Her work is conceived above all as a humanist act. Through a demanding and humble practice, she explores the margins, absences, and erased narratives, offering a poetic presence to those whom the media flow often reduces to anonymity. She approaches the intimate as a shared territory, where individual history and collective memory meet. The exhibition "Here and Elsewhere" fully embodies this approach. The paintings presented feature solitary and anonymous figures, around which a theater of the intimate unfolds. Exile, loneliness, and vulnerability cross her works, but always accompanied by softness, restraint, and sometimes a discreet humor. These silent images take a deeply empathetic look at the human condition and invite the spectator to a sensitive crossing of our world. The collages, made exclusively from newspaper, reveal a remarkable formal and narrative coherence. By tearing, cutting, and recomposing fragments from the daily press, the artist transforms a material saturated with current events into a space of slowness and contemplation. The gesture of collage fades in favor of images of great delicacy, where the eye searches in vain for the seams, as if to better lose itself in the suggested story. Through transparency, printed fragments surface, weaving a subtle dialogue between collective memory and intimate narrative. The Memory-Stick sculptures, sober and vertical, extend this reflection on human presence, balance, and fragility. They evoke silhouettes in suspense, bodies standing despite everything, affirming a form of silent resistance. Covered with recycled materials, they carry within them the traces of past existences. Depositories of intimate stories, these sticks become vectors of transmission, they connect individual experiences to a vaster memory, ensuring the passage of memory from one generation to the next. With simplicity and sobriety, Géraldine de Bellaing favors poetry and accuracy. She affirms art as an act of presence, responsibility, transmission, and humanity.
