Koksijde through the eyes of the Zouaves (guided tour)

The first villas in the Senegalese quarter were built starting in 1910. These beautiful chalets were mainly occupied by wealthy Brussels residents who spent their holidays there. Pendant la Première Guerre world, the empty villas were occupied by the Zouaves. These French soldiers who came from the African colonies, with their baggy pants and bright red headgear, left a deep impression on the residents of Koksijde.\n\nThe originality of the "Senegalese quarter" lies in the fact that the villas have largely retained their authenticity.
