Ríoghnach Connolly duo

Ríoghnach Connolly is a Northern Irish singer who connects folk and soul in a natural way. Her repertoire moves between original work and traditional influences from Ireland and the Verenigd Koninkrijk. Ríoghnach Connolly grew up in a musical nest in Northern Ireland and has since built an impressive international career. She toured with, among others, The Breath, Honeyfeet and Afro Celt Sound System, and was awarded Folk Singer of the Year by both RTÉ and BBC Radio 2. Her voice is praised as timeless and intense, a rare combination of finesse and raw expression. For this concert, she forms an intimate duo with guitarist Ellis Davies, with whom she has been playing for almost twenty years (as long as they have also been a couple). His subtle, refined fingerpicking forms the perfect bedding for Connolly’s rich vocals and flute playing. Together they explore the traditional music from Ríoghnach’s youth and give it a personal and immersive interpretation.
