Old Salt is an americana band with a European home base that has been bringing a mix of original work and traditionals since 2015. The group consists of musicians with roots in the US, Belgium, France, Sweden, Scotland, and Chile. Those diverse backgrounds color their sound and make Old Salt an international encounter around one common love: playing. They have been touring Europe for years and have performed on various stages, from cultural centers to large festivals and showcase events such as the Freiburger Kulturbörse. In 2017, they received the European World of Bluegrass Award.
The music of Old Salt draws inspiration from the streets of New Orleans, the Appalachian Mountains, and the folk revival of the northeast of the Verenigde Staten, but also from South American styles and European folk genres from, among others, Sweden, Ireland, and Bulgaria. The banjo grooves of frontman Dan Wall are supplemented with polyphonic vocals, improvisations on violin, mandolin, and cello, and a powerful rhythm guitar.
