On Wednesday, October 7, 2026, you are welcome at Den Blijk for the free film evening 'A Community of Life'. The doors open at 7:30 PM and the film starts at 8:00 PM.
In the film by Rik van der Linden, ecologist and philosopher Matthijs Schouten shows how vulnerable and resilient our nature is, and how human and nature are inextricably intertwined. The nature film places the oak processionary caterpillar in a broader perspective. Where the caterpillar is sometimes known as the 'itch caterpillar', the film shows how the native caterpillar is part of our ecosystem. With the highest score ever from the audience, the film 'A Community of Life' convincingly won the audience award at the Wildlife Film Festival in Rotterdam. The film has now reached hundreds of people in the Netherlands and Belgium and encourages thinking about how we deal with nature in our living environment. A current and important theme now that various plant and animal species are under pressure and in times of climate change.
