Cello Suites by Bach - Ronan Kernoa

When Toen Ronan Kernoa told Rainer Arndt, artistic director of the label Ramée, that he wanted to record the 6 suites for solo cello by Bach, his reaction was enthusiastic. They soon began to think about the form this project could take. He said that he wanted to play some suites on the viola da gamba, others on the cello, and it seemed obvious to him that each suite should be recorded with a different instrument. This seemed complex, but in the end, he is happy that he followed through with the idea. A bit like an organist varies the tone colors of the music with the different registers of his instrument, this 'rereading' allowed him to dive back into this divine music with great pleasure and to rediscover a freshness that he had sometimes forgotten a little. The concert takes place in the house of Servais where the cello naturally belongs to the fullest and comes into its own. A unique place for a unique performance.
