Art Anderlecht

Since 2022, Art Anderlecht has been inviting people to discover the municipality differently, through its workshops, independent spaces, and artistic initiatives. On foot or by bike, the route outlines a human-scale cartography of an ecosystem made of places, encounters, friendships, and collaborations. Alongside Brussels Art Week, Art Anderlecht offers a side-step, another way of moving around, looking, and meeting. Vernissages, workshops, guided tours, and parties punctuate the route, offering as many opportunities to discover what is being built here. For this new edition, we choose to look at what lies between places, between projects, between what is shown and what allows them to exist. The bonds that are woven, the resources we share, the spaces we open, and the collaborations that give birth to projects. Because an artistic scene is not only built in its exhibitions, but also in everything that precedes them, accompanies them, and extends them. This attention to bonds runs through this year's programming, where artistic practices, narratives, knowledge, and resources meet and circulate, from collective manufacturing to territory exploration. These projects do not tell a single story, but bring to light a single intuition: what matters is not always where we look. Some practices are fugitive, some spaces exist only for the duration of an event, some stories remain buried, some bonds become visible only at the moment they are activated. This is where we locate the commons, in the gestures that keep a milieu alive: welcoming, collaborating, caring. Bonds that are sometimes discreet or precarious, but essential to artistic life. And if the commons allow us to hold on, they also allow us to rejoice. The party, the vernissage, the encounter, or the evening fully participate in this collective life, they create bonds, produce memory, and make us want to stay together. Our role as curators and facilitators is to accompany these circulations, to connect the narratives, and to make visible the relationships that traverse the places. Art Anderlecht thus becomes more than an exhibition route—a crossing of a territory and its multiple stories, of its visible and invisible spaces, of its fixed and fugitive uses.
