Film/docu: My word against mine

One in ten people hears voices. Voices that sound out loud. In Mijn word against mine, declared at IDFA 2025 as Beste Nederlandse Documentaire, we get to know five people who live with this phenomenon.\n\nThe film takes the viewer into their experiential world. All undergo a revolutionary different treatment, in which their inner voices are no longer suppressed, but are actually invited to participate in the process.\n\nA psychiatrist goes directly into conversation with the voices. Who are they? Why are they there? What do they want? Step by step an intense and careful trajectory unfolds in which confrontation and curiosity come together.\n\nMy word against mine sketches a compelling group portrait – of the main characters and their voices – that permanently changes our view on voice hearers.\n\nAfter the performance follows a reflection moment (+- 20 minutes), guided by a care provider and an experience expert.\n\nThis initiative is part of the campaign ‘Samen Veerkrachtig’. From October 1 to 10, it puts the importance of good mental health extra in the spotlight.
