And there is absolutely no need to be a "king of the blues" to come... Belgian artist Simon Gillart develops work based on hijacking and recycling. From consumer product packaging, he composes astonishing masks, at the crossroads of primitive art, popular objects, and contemporary criticism. His works seduce first by their shapes, their colors, their visual humor, then they question our relationship to brands, images, and consumption. With the Les Rois of beer series, each mask glorifies a very specific variety of beer, as if it were becoming a modern deity. The gesture is both funny and critical: by erecting these products to the rank of sacred figures, Simon Gillart celebrates as much as he questions the place they occupy in our collective imagination. Installed in the Staquet foyer, this exhibition will accompany the week of "Belgitude" with mischief, conviviality, and irony.
