On October 17th, it is the Day against poverty. In October, community centers organize actions aimed at highlighting poverty and making it a topic of discussion. At the same time, we are collecting funds for the associations that work daily with people in situations of poverty. Come join us to enjoy some "stoemp" served with sausages (also vegetarian), support this good cause, and contribute to a warm and supportive city. You can come eat at lunchtime (12:00) or in the evening (19:00). In other years, we prepare spaghetti for "Brussel Helpt". This action will only resume next year; that is why we chose to participate in this day. A few figures that reflect the harsh reality: - More than one Brussels resident out of five lives in material and social deprivation. - Nearly one out of seven is in a situation of severe deprivation. - Nearly 10,000 people are homeless or unhoused. - More than 50,000 people live without papers. - For the 20% poorest, more than half of the income is spent on housing. The proceeds will be used to support the Brussels associations "Where the poor take the floor": ARA asbl (social aid), Bij ons - Chez nous (aid for the homeless), De Buurtwinkel (fight against poverty), Pigment (for undocumented people), Bonnevie (housing), Vrienden van het Huizeke (meeting and solidarity), De Schakel (social cohesion), DoucheFLUX (basic services).
