COPYRIOT - KRAPP / KVS

Gloria always considered herself to be ‘quite unique’. Until one day she bumps into herself. Or rather, someone who looks exactly like her. Someone with the exact same name, the exact same body, the exact same dreams. The more she tries to be original, the further she sinks into a simulation of her own life. Until she realises that she has become exactly what she had always been running away from; a reproduction, a duplicate, a pastiche of herself. COPYRIOT focuses on our search for something to hold on to in a world that increasingly resembles a copy of a copy. Inspired by the films of Charlie Kaufman and Dostoevsky’s absurd short story The Double, Krapp seeks to evoke a tragicomic mirror world full of strange duplications and dubious doppelgängers. For although individuality seems to be the greatest good, we are ever more often being confused with our virtual doppelgängers; those idealised spirits that resemble us so closely and — who knows — may one day become ‘more real’ than we are ourselves. With COPYRIOT, Krapp once again attempts to look the ‘monstrous’ in the eye. Having previously done battle with paranoid cyborgs, gothic ghosts and the Devil himself, they now confront modernity’s greatest monster: the self. ...
