Wandeling Den Hoek and Kraasbeek (7 km)

World War I is known everywhere for the fighting in the flooded Yser plain, the “Last Post” under the Menin Gate in Ypres, “Plugstreet” (Ploegsteert) of the English soldiers, hills that are conquered or dynamited, the honorary cemeteries in the Westhoek recognized by UNESCO as world heritage... The renovated Kiekenboshoeve also breathes the history of World War I. A defensive line with trenches ran there to the church in Kiezegem with support from artillery on the top of the Vlaaistraat. The farm temporarily served as the headquarters of the military staff. Aan de Leuvensesteenweg we stop at the renovated bus station with the story of the old steam tram to the modern electrically powered buses of De Lijn. We continue through Kraasbeek to the Manhof. Op de Bremberghoeve we get to know the white-blue cattle breed. The last stop is a visit to the flower and plant nursery Bart Blondeel on the Leuvensesteenweg.
