A Room Of His Own is a dark-comic satire about pornography, power, and sexual politics. The play revolves around Andrea Dworkin, the iconic anti-porn feminist from the seventies. During a sleepless night, a fictional Dworkin takes the audience on an intense journey along her dream images, contradictions, and the lasting impact of her ideas on society. In this perverse comedy of manners, themes such as porn, feminism, and power structures are explored in a sharp, sensual, and often comical way. From her bed, a night unfolds full of decadent visions and reflections on the post-war promise of sexual freedom, with echoes that are still palpable today. The result is a fascinating ode to an influential voice, brought to life through the visually stunning direction of Nona Demey Gallagher. Nona is a Ghent theater maker and director, co-founder of collective KRAPP, who creates theater from female perspectives. She investigates how sexuality, authority, and gender history still work through today, and uses satire and grotesque forms to expose the vulnerability and absurdity of power structures.
