Evening walk around the Baekelandt forests

Het Houthulstbos, whose foothills still reached up to Roeselare in the middle of the nineteenth century, has a turbulent history. Today you will find a fascinating mix of relics from the ‘Groote Oorlog’, folklore around the life of the forest dwellers, and a very varied nature. On the southeast edge of the current military domain, we manage the Vijfwegenpoel, our nature reserve that borders the former front train route, now a cycle path. That is where our walk of approx. 5 km starts along largely paved paths, where we are constantly on the border between old agricultural landscape, new nature, and one of the largest forest areas in our province. Interesting for numerous plant and bird species. The spacious surroundings form the hunting ground for hobby, buzzard, sparrowhawk, kestrel, and honey buzzard. And anyone who wants to get to know the whitethroat, linnet, icterine warbler, garden warbler, turtle dove, and perhaps also the golden oriole: don't miss this evening!  Register via the Natuurpunt website.
