Ever heard of Honsem? From 1965 to 1977, it was the name of a merged municipality. A forced marriage of four agricultural municipalities: Opvelp, Neervelp, Meldert, and Willebringen. After 1977, it became its former self again: a small hamlet without a church, café, or growth prospects and a sub-municipality of … Boutersem. Complicated, all of it. And yet you can take particularly beautiful and historically interesting walks there in an open landscape full of hidden gems, stories, and birds. How about a phantom plane, a language border, a mountain, a view of Babelom, …? The meeting point is the parking lot of a heritage site. It is located on a side path of the Bevekomsestraat in Boutersem and to be precise at 50°47'48.7"N 4°48'55.1"E We will meet there at 2 PM for a 6 km walk. For a beer afterward, we will head down to the nearby Meldert. Departure and end: Oorlogssite Honsem, Bevekomstraat 3370 Willebringen Departure: 2:00 PM Walking shoes or boots are always useful.
