Guided walk: Hasselt - Water as a common thread

Sat, 6 Jun 2026 · 12:00
NMBS-Station Hasselt, Hasselt
€10
Hasselt has grown around water. Not only as a source of life but also as an engine for work, trade, and living together. During this walk, we follow that stream through the city. We walk past places where cloth was once woven, beer was brewed, and jenever was distilled. What did that mean for the people who lived and worked here? And what traces do we still see today? We walk through the Groene Boulevard, the Raamstraat, the Badderijstraat, and the Paardsdemerstraat. Along the way, names appear that were once known to every Hasselt resident: De Blauwe Hant, De Drij Dragonders, Batopillo, the Brabantse Huyck. We pause at the beguinage and the refuge house, and at figures who helped determine the face of the city. Contemporary Hasselt is also discussed, with street art that gives the city color and meaning again. A walk that shows how economy, water, and the lives of ordinary people have been intertwined for centuries. Practical Departure on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Hasselt station (also the end point). The walk lasts 3 hours.
