Motian Love

Motian Love is the new project of the Belgian drummer Nicolas Chkifi, who brings a tribute to the beautiful music of the American drummer and composer Paul Motian, with the emphasis on the sound and the repertoire of his trio with Joe Lovano and Bill Frisell. Chkifi (who we know from the group Fnussjen in the Jazzzolder) has selected his favorite Motian compositions and put together a beautiful line-up of talented musicians, with the two tenor saxophonists Erwin Vann and Nicolas Kummert and the two guitarists Vitja Pauwels and Artan Buleshkaj. The interplay within the ensemble is exciting, with a lot of improvisation, melody, and texture. Motian Love thus becomes an open love letter to the spirit and the music of Paul Motian.
